With all the grey skies and constant rain, we’re yearning to add some colour, to brighten up the days. While it’s tempting to go all out and add lots of colourful accessories, you also want to keep the design element of the room, without going overboard. With a bit of planning, you can create a beautiful, liveable space that adds colour and vibrancy to your home, so here are some of our top tips…

When adding colour to a room, plan your bedroom furniture or living room furniture in advance. It’s best to pick some select neutral items and build the rest of the room around it. Try solid oak furniture or pine furniture to establish the key elements of a room, such as wardrobes, beds and chest of drawers. For a comfortable living room, select a cosy leather sofa set that suits the room, or try out fabric sofas, for a more versatile choice. Add extras such as bookcases, sideboards and media units to add storage and display space, and keep the room looking stylish. For great deals on contemporary wood furniture, look out for discount furniture or furniture sales, to bag a great bargain.

Once you’ve got your basic furniture elements selected, think about a colour scheme to suit both your tastes and the room. A blue-based colour palette is great for creating a sense of space and calmness, and is ideal for a bedroom, living room or home office. Try a bright blue office chair to add a touch of fun colour to a home office. To give warmth, try richer tones like red or purple as a base colour theme, and build your living room or bedroom furniture style options around that.

If you don’t want to commit to adding too much colour to a room, try small touches through versatile accessories, which can be swapped around or removed as you need to. For a touch of bold colour, add a bright orange or purple storage stool, which gives an additional storage space as well as adding a pop of colour. Another fun way to introduce colour to a room is through shelving – funky coloured wall cubes in a set of different sizes add a cool contemporary element, as well as making useful wall shelf space.

The living room is a great place to add bright touches of colour, and can create a relaxing and welcoming environment with the right touches. Use console tables or display cabinets to display colourful additions, such as photographs, artwork and floral arrangements. Offset neutral sofa sets with bright colour pillows and throws, to add comfort and colour to a living space.  Coloured upholstered footstools are another great way of bringing in an element of comfort to a living room, that is both versatile and flexible.

Colour adds a personal and engaging element to any room, that can improve the atmosphere and create a warm environment. Choose colours that will suit your personality and mood, and enjoy your new colourful home!
