One of our favourite trends in interior design this year is a return to sleek and organic contemporary styles. Combining the refreshing look of modern minimalist design with a more rustic feel, wood bedroom furniture and living room furniture is back, making a huge impact on the design scene. Read on for some of our favourite tips for the living room…

Solid oak furniture is always a classic in the making – bright and clean in natural shades or stained dark and moody to create dramatic, exciting features in a room. Oak consoles make a great centrepiece for the living room or hallway, and are perfectly offset with fresh flowers, framed photos and other decorative touches.

Another great touch for the hallway are wooden coat racks. No only do they look so much tidier than plain old cost hooks, they also help to create a great, overall style theme to a space, making a home feel more like home.

For a study, line up a wall with tall bookcases to create a dramatic feature and share interesting vintage book finds and coffee table books with your guests. Or if you’re short on space, try a corner unit, which is a great way to maximise storage and crests the an attractive focal point for a room. Cheap oak furniture doesn’t mean you have to compromise on quality, so look around for attractive pieces that can often be snapped up at bargain prices.

Mix up oak furniture with other materials, like glass and metal, for a visual treat. Striking glass coffee tables give balance and cool sophistication to the warmth of natural oak. Look out for retro industrial touches – vintage metal signs are perfect for adding a quirky touch to a room.

Contrast oak furniture with natural shades and organic materials. A leather sofa set in brown or black create an instant warm environment. Natural fibres, like a wool rug or throw, add softness and texture, and make a space feel lived in and inviting.

Wood interiors are definitely an interior design trend that will last, so pick a style that suits your home, for an investment that you will always enjoy.
